brochure2Robert Schultz founded our company (originally called Schultz Mechanical Wire Co. Inc.) in 1968, in a small garage on Lawton Avenue in Rock Creek, Ohio.  Mr. Schultz started with one employee and one machine.  He soon outgrew the garage and in 1969 a larger building was purchased on Route 307 in Austinburg, Ohio.  As the business continued to grow, we expanded the building several times, totaling 12,000 square feet.  Employment also increased from two employees to twenty-eight employees.  When Mr. Schultz decided to retire, the business was sold in 1984 to R & A Industries, an individual absentee investorfrom Pittsburgh, PA.  The company had sufficient capital investment which aided to doubling the size of the company in four years, under the leadership of General Manager, Vernon Rogers.

R & A Industries sold Schultz Mechanical Wire in 1990 to Eagle Ventures, a limited partnership based in Pittsburgh, PA.  Shortly after the sale of the company, our space had again become limited.  The new owners decided to build a new facility.  As the land was purchased and plans drawn a recession hit not only our communitybut our nation.  Plans continued and in May 1991 a new 20,000 square foot, one story, preformed concrete manufacturing facility was built in the Austinburg Coffee Creek Industrial Park, adjacent to the UPS Terminal.  By the time the facility was built and the move brochure3completed, the economy started recovering and we continued to grow.

On September 1, 1995 Schultz Mechanical Wire purchased the assets of Frederick Specialties, Incorporated, a small spring company which manufactured car door lock springs, located in Ashtabula, OH.

In February of 1997 Eagle Ventures announced that the company was for sale to the highest bidder.  With the help of Mr. Richard Kovach’s financial backing, Growth Partnership, Ashtabula County 503 Board, State of Ohio, Mr. Dick Haines of Key Bank, Warren & Young, and Mr. Paul Demshar, CPA, the funding was put together for the purchase of the company.  The bid was accepted and on July 1, 1997, Mr. Kovach (a local businessman and manufacturer) and the Management Team (J. Russell Bryer, Ed Hall, Nancy Sidley and Gary Van Buren) purchased the company and established the
Spring Team, Incorporated. The name Spring Team is symbolic of the team-approach brochure5being used to manage the company.  Our Team Leaders are responsible for all phases of the operation.

As time went by we again found ourselves overcrowded and working with limited space.  On June10, 1998, earth moving equipment broke ground for a 20,000square foot addition. This addition would now double the size of Spring Team.  Initially the addition was used for warehousing and gradually grew into additional production and shipping areas.

November 11, 1998, we made significant strides by attaining our ISO 9002 Certification. We sought certification because we wanted to look ahead to the future and to be open to everyopportunity.  At this time we began posting our goals and objectives for all Employees to view, advising them of where our company stands at all times.  Monthly summary sheets are posted in the plant to show the dollar amount of orders, new customers, backlog, shipping, and profits.  As profits grow, the employees share in that growth.  The overall combination of employee dedication, our customers, and our quality service has raised Spring Team Incorporated to new heights. This is reflectbrochure4ed in our Mission/Policy Statement which has always remained the same: To deliver a quality product on time and to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.

On September 28, 1999, at a dinner ceremony of 740 people, Spring Team was awarded “Best of County” by Growth Partnership of Ashtabula County, Ohio.  “The ‘90s:  A Remarkable Decade” served at the theme for the 11th annual awards banquet honoring the county’s top businesses and economic development leaders.

Spring Team Incorporated purchased Sanborn Wire Products, Incorporated of Rock Creek, Ohio on April 25, 2003.  Once consolidated into one location in the Austinburg, Ohio facility, the acquisition allowed Spring Team to remain competitive and permit us to grow with our customers.  Now making us a fully integrated CNC spring manufacturer, ISO 9002 certified and team driven organization.
